Why Sleepaxa Instead of Other Brands? Optometrist-Built, Patented, Measured and Made in Our Own Lab
There are hundreds of "blue light", "migraine" and "sleep" glasses online. Most are the same stock lenses with a different logo, a percentage printed on the box and no one qualified behind them. Sleepaxa was built the other way round: by a clinical optometrist, on patented photobiology research, with every lens specified by wavelength and made in our own lab. Here is exactly what that means — and how to tell the difference before you buy anywhere.

The short answer
Choose Sleepaxa if you want glasses designed by an eye-care clinician, backed by patented light research, with measured wavelength data for every lens, made in your exact prescription — from zero power to prism, in our own optical lab. Everything in one place: migraine, sleep and screens.
1. Built by a clinical optometrist — not a marketing team
Sleepaxa wasn't started by an ad agency that spotted a trend. It was founded by a practising clinical optometrist with more than ten years in practice, who ran an independent eye clinic from 2017 and personally performed over 10,000 eye examinations before designing a single lens.
That clinic chair is where the idea came from: patient after patient with migraine, light sensitivity or poor sleep had already tried cheap tinted glasses that didn't help — because nobody had asked which wavelengths were the problem, or whether the tint was even what the box claimed. Every Sleepaxa lens starts with that clinical question, and our optometry team still checks every prescription order before a lens is cut.
- Founder's peer-reviewed research published in Cureus and indexed on PubMed (PMID 42524168)
- Lens development with a senior clinical advisor in vision science
- Around 30% of company budget reinvested into research, testing and patents
2. Seven patent filings in photobiology
Most eyewear brands own a logo. We own lens science. Our research division has filed seven patent applications in photobiology and optical engineering, two of which are already granted:
| Technology | What it does | Status |
|---|---|---|
| NeuroCalm FLX+ | Dual-band selective light attenuation for migraine-related light sensitivity | Granted · Patent no. 587746 |
| Circadian560 | Absorptive circadian lens built around a 560 nm cut-off | Granted · Patent no. 597482 |
| Kinetic photochromic lens | Light-responsive adaptive filtering | Filed |
| Circadian gating lens | Passive adaptive optical gating | Filed |
| Spectral sensing device | Measuring the light you're exposed to | Filed |
| Myopia-control spectacle | Light-dose controlled eyewear | Filed |
| Undisclosed lens technology | — | Filed |
Our FL-41 and Red sleep lenses are inspired by the NeuroCalm FLX+ and Circadian560 research. See our patents →
3. From tint to wavelength: every lens, measured
Ask most brands what their lens actually does and you'll get "blocks up to 90% of blue light". Ask us and you get a spectrophotometer curve. Every Sleepaxa tint batch is measured, and each lens is tested to EN ISO 12312-1, ANSI Z80.3 and AS/NZS 1067.1 — the European, US and Australian standards. Here's our whole range, in numbers:
| Lens | For | Measured performance | Overall light · category |
|---|---|---|---|
| FL-41 Dark | Migraine, severe photophobia | 13.8% at 450 nm · 12.6% at 520 nm · rose band preserved (100% above 670 nm) | 41.1% · Cat 2 |
| FL-41 Light | Everyday light sensitivity, offices | Same rose-band notch at higher overall transmittance | Brighter · all-day indoor |
| Amber | Evening, sleep preparation | 0.10% at 450 nm · 0.48% at 500 nm → 99.5%+ blocked to 500 nm | 50.5% · Cat 1 |
| Red | Last 1–2 hours before bed | 0% from 380 to 560 nm (Circadian560-inspired) | 14.9% · Cat 3, indoors |
| DayActive | Screens, gaming, glare | 36.8% at 450 nm · 76.5% at 550 nm · 95% at 700 nm | 76.5% · Cat 1 |

4. From zero power to prism — all in one place
Most specialist tint brands sell one tint, often in limited prescriptions. Most optical retailers sell every prescription, but with generic tints. Sleepaxa does both: every lens family in every prescription type.

| Zero power (non-prescription) | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ |
| Single vision | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ |
| Progressive (incl. wider designs) | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ |

A lot of online tinted-glasses brands are resellers: they buy pre-tinted stock lenses and generic frames in bulk from third-party factories, add a logo, and print a blue-light percentage on the box nobody has verified. When something is wrong, there's no one who can measure it, let alone fix it.
Sleepaxa lenses are tinted, cut, coated and inspected in our own optical laboratory:
- Prescription-grade CR-39 optical resin as standard, with high-index options
- Tint applied in-house and checked on a spectrophotometer, batch by batch
- Five-layer coating stack: scratch-resistant hard coat, anti-reflective, tinted core, hydrophobic, oleophobic
- Prescription verified by our optometry team before cutting
- Every pair inspected before dispatch, with a spectrophotometer report reference in the box
Because we make the lens, we stand behind it: if we ever make your prescription lenses incorrectly, we remake them free.
How to spot a white-label "blue light" brand
Before you buy tinted glasses anywhere — including from us — check these six things:
- Is there a transmission curve or wavelength data? "Blocks 90% of blue light" without saying at which wavelength means nothing.
- Who designed the lens? Look for a named eye-care professional or published research, not just "our experts".
- Is it tested to a standard? EN ISO 12312-1, ANSI Z80.3 or AS/NZS 1067.1.
- Can you get it in your real prescription? Including progressive and prism, not just single vision.
- Does the same frame appear on marketplaces under other names? That's usually a sign of white-label stock.
- Who answers your questions? A clinician, or a generic help desk?
